  • Errrrrrrrrrrr.....I now have another four chooks!!!

Just bought 4 more brown hybrid chooks which are 14 weeks old to add to the 10 I already have! At £3.50 each I just couldn't resist em!

    Will I ever learn?????????

14 eggs a day!!!Not good for your cholesterol levels ya know!!
That's kind of how we ended up with 12 though....went to a farm with the kiddies & it wasn't my fault the shop were selling 10 week old chooks that were particularly pretty & only £2.50 each!!O.K so we already had 10,but what's another 2 (or 4!!)??
Good Luck with them~hope you don't have too much fighting between the ranks & that they don't all go broody on yer.....is there a limit at your lottie as to how many?

They are seperated from the other hens annd have a run within a run and there own small home which I've spent all day building for them.

Funnily enough, the new younguns try to have a go at the olduns, not the other way round although I did see Number 1 hen with a beakfull of feathers where the newbie had stuck its head through the wire.

No limits at the allotment as far as I know..........though the way I'm going it would have probably been better if their had been!

By the way, as I've not been around for a bit (thanks for your message Snadge), did I miss the last news about Tush and the egg?
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Glad to have you back Maureen. Unfortunately Tushes last egg was duff as well! ...................Ah well, can't be helped!

I had to keep lifting her off the nest and locking her out of the hut during the daytime but she seems to have gotten over it now. The others have been quite horrid towards her but she seems to have assumed her rightful place in the pecking order again. Unfortunately, because I had another chook which seemed as if she was going broody, I had to put a paint spot on Tush so that I could keep liftting her out and leave the other broody.

The other broody was a flash in the pan and only lasted two days.
Now the others seem as if they are pecking at the paint mark which has nearly gone away. Tush should be back to normal soon I hope, non the worse for her ordeal!

I've put bracelets made out of different coloured cable ties on some of my chooks so I can tell who is who! They don't mind them at all, and they've had them on for about 6 months now. No irritation or leg damage so I'm pleased about that. Perhaps it might be an idea for you to try with Tush?

Bit wary about using cable ties as it wasn't until photographing my other chooks I realised they had cable ties on. Some of them were very tight and I had to be very careful when I cut them off.
I know you can get proper rings but I needed to differentiate Tush in a hurry and thought a dab of paint would be a quick solution. Instead it's acted as a target for the other chooks to peck!

I suppose the simplest solution would be to have hens of differing colours...............bit late now though!

                        * chuckles* wondered how long that would take

i've ordered some rings off ebay, you can get ones for adult birds that clip round they were dead cheap.

Our girls all have different coloured leg rings as well.... since they all look the same, it's easy enough to check their legs for rings/colours
