  • Pictures of coops/ runs for inspiration

Hi Yes the bug/addiction has hit us all. Thought I'd start a post for pictures of all our coops and runs.

We've had our girls since friday and am surfing around for inspiration on chicken house designs.

You've not put one of your coop up!

This is our 'Poultry Palace'...lol. I never want to go through building one again - it was a nightmare!!

Still, the girls adore it - and we adore them...so it's all worth it!!

This is our chook hoose. Though the chooks free range all day, it is amazing to see them, just before dusk, all come into the pen, have a bite to eat and then into their house to roost. I close the pop hole and lock the pen later.http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...p/P1000051.jpg

Here's ours! As you can see, it's still at the drawing board stage. Here they are just coming out for breakfast. At the moment they can free range over the dining room table but need help putting themselves to bed.

        However, come the spring ......!

Home made bread, toasted, with real butter, followed by apple juice. 'Course you can have a bit chuck!

Yes, it's good 'cos you can stand up (just!) and there's loads of room in it....and it was already in the garden so cost very little to convert. We blocked all but one window, covered the open one in 3 layers of chicken wire. Painted the inside in white gloss (supposed to fill cracks to stop red mite hiding in them), it is certainly easy to clean!
Having said that, before I got the chooks I stressed so much about what coop to get. In reality they really don't care (they're not too houseproud!) or spend much time in it other than roosting, so I don't think it matters too much. Esp as mine are ex batts, really anything is better than a cage!

Flummery, that is superb! really brought a smile to my face today, thank you!

Will post some pics soon, OH has done some amazing constructions that have got progressively more creative... in fact, I'm now too afraid to ask him to build another one, it'll probably come out looking like a miniature Holyrood or something!

Yes Vicky I've realised that we spent ages looking around and all they need is somewhere to sleep and lay. Im not thinking of a small shed so I can stand in it and clean(only had chickens 4 days and want another house - I feel the need to convert something as my diy and OH diy skills are rubbish)

I have posted picks of my newly built coop on my blog. Take a look, I think it's great (even if I say so myself!). I put 4 Hybrids in last week and today got myself some 3 Cuckoo Marans (1 beautiful cock bird and 2 hens).
