  • 3 eggs in 3 days!!!

susie, our silkie cross, is of an indefinite age (the farmer i got her from has since had bad reviews... he told me shes a silkie and her legs dont look old)

well, in 3 weeks we'd had 3 eggs from her... then this weekend shes laid 3 in 3 days! although the lovely white colour is now a pale brown,,,

todays one i collected while she was still in the nest box (i had a peek to see where she was as she's not one to hide in the coop) she then came out and let the whole neighbourhood know what she'd done!

that egg made it 3 today... most we've had in 3 days, as molly (scabby) is too busy growing feathers and our youngest two are still too young...

    better start collecting eggy recipes!

Out of interest...how big are you finding her eggs? Are they tasty?

her eggs are small... most days the ex-batts lay a medium egg unless they miss a day and then i get a large egg... but the large eggs are at least 2x the size of susie's...

i'll try and take a pic when i get home from work and show you

That would be great, I'd like to see how big they are.

I am planning to attempt to hatch either silkies or lavender pekins in the spring. But, I want to get an idea of how 'useful' their eggs will be.

I heard silkies didn't like the rain, or mud though - which could be a bit of a problem for us, as Scotland is famous for it's wind, rain and mud!!!

mine gets on fine... if she's been wet or muddy she'll go to bed early and preen...

made egg sarnies today with 2 of susie's and 2 from the ex-batts... plenty there for 2 1/2 sarnies... (and i snuck a little bit extra in my mouth when no one was looking!)

            Possibly an egg from Marigold

Marigold is one of my birthday present chooks, a Black Star. Yesterday when I went to collect the eggs, there was a tiny one in the nest with the usual other assortment. Marigold was the only one of the newbies that crouched down (expecting a cockeral!) when I went to touch her, and as she has the largest comb and wattles, I'm just making a presumption here - no positive evidence. The picture shows 2 of yesterdays eggs, and I think the one on the left is from Marigold. Hope so anyway

Hope you don't disappoint her too much Maureen - not being a cockeral, that is! I don't suppose the other new gals will be far behind now.
