  • Aaaaaaaaah - A month early!

Just had a call - I can pick up my 'girls' on Saturday, a whole month early!

    I can't wait

Haven't put the coop together yet - or bought a battery for the fence - or any feed

Better get my A into G. Better think of names. Better calm down and be more rational. Ha! No chance! Now I know what you all mean about eggcitement (sorry, couldn't resist that one )

    Better think of names...

Oh wow, that's brilliant Get the house done first, get plenty of bedding in it cos they'll be cold, get the food ready, a container for the water, boxes/cat carriers to bring the girls home in. You'll be fine, honestly, just enjoy them when they arrive
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

                      Update...

I bought some feed today - pellets that I can turn into mash until they are used to it and some fancy stuff that the lady in the feed merchant recommended, as her Chooks love it. I think she said it's made by Baileys, so if it's as good as their Horse feed we'll be fine. She also recommended a Chook-keeping book called something like 'How to keep the Vet away' or something along those lines, but at a tenner I didn't indulge. Normally I would, but not being a proper wage-earner at the mo, I didn't want to push my luck. I've spent all the PayPal reserve on the Coop, fencing and feeders and waterers, although that was free money really, as we sold a load of furniture and white goods on eBay when we downsized.

Then when I went to feed the Neddies, I nabbed a bag of shavings from the stables, but forgot to get some hay, so will have to get that tomorrow after I've put the Coop together. It's a good job I have no proper work tomorrow coz I've got to muck-out the car and sort out my Chook travelling boxes - don't fancy eight hens loose in the car somehow!

I can pick them up between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday, so the countdown has started...

Oh, by the way, as they are ex-bats my Sister has suggested 'Duracell' 'Ever Ready' 'Double A' and 'Triple A' as names - Silly Moo!

                      More later.X

I bet the names change when they actually arrive and you see their different characters. Just ask Attila the Hen!

Great news. Just a little word of warning though, please don't use hay in the coop, it can harbour red mite. Straw is better, or shredded paper, plus wood shavings to absorb the wees and poos.

I'm almost envious of you getting ex-batts - I love going to the rescues and every time I've come away with more than I'd planned

The only link to baileys and horses I am aware of is men in red coats with little fingers in the air getting tanked up on it before going on the hunt!
