Free Ranging for the FIRST time!

My girlies were let out yesterday for the first time to free range in the garden!! It's safe to say they ADORED it, although I was a little tense!!!

Everything went well - they met the dogs (who were fine with them), and by accident, they met Alfie (our youngest cat)....



As you can see...all went well!!! He was TERRIFIED of the girls, and they very quickly sensed that and gave him a couple of quick pecks!! I must admit, it was funny to watch. He's normally such a little devil!! (I recall a post about how cats responded to chickens - I think I can safely say...they don't!!!...lol).

Anyway...just wanted to get that off my chest - I've had two very exciting days (they were out today again!).

They are salmon faverolles - I'd highly recommend them, they're gorgeous wee creatures. Loves cuddles, kisses...adore you talking to them...lol. They're wee darlings!!!

Hashette, they just went in without any prompting. I left their run door open, and when darkness came they just made their way to their house. Although made a lot of fuss about it, and fell off the wall...ran around annoyed and had some chicken tantrums before their successful attempt!!!

(I stood in the kitchen and watched them, so they thought they were on their own...as they are not afraid to just hop up in to my arms and squawk until I do as they please!!...talk about hen pecked!)

I would love to free range mine i just haven't got the room and value my veg plot!
They do escape now and again though (usually while i'm daydreaming) and seem to relish digging holes in my newly laid woodchipping paths!

Mine have ruined my lawn. So muddy now I nearly went a** over t** this morning. Had an egg in my hand too.

Well, I am not going to let mine free range all the time...in a desperate attempt to keep my lawn!!!

I plan on letting them out from about 3-5 each night. Just long enough to dig up my bushes and bulbs!!!

Still...as long as they are happy!!!

They're lovely Bephlam, (there really really should be a green smiley ) I'll let mine out of the yard occasionally into the orchard when I have them that is.........

I do the same, although in the morning as it's already dark when I get back! Mine aren't too interested in digging up the lawn,more like my flower beds! They are lovely (your girls), I'm rather taken by them! But then I am with every new breed I come across!
