  • Early nights!

Now that the girls are putting themselves to bed so early,we have a slight problem(?)with collecting their eggs. It's not always possible for me to get up there during the day & by the time Andi gets to them after work they've all put themselves to bed~only one insists on sleeping in the nest box,but the others roost right in front of it/them.
So....would it be best to.A~Leave the eggs til the morning..or.B~disturb the girls & get them when they're in bed?
What do you all do?Sure we're not the only ones in this position.
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

my dad just used to reach gently underneath them and remove the eggs, no expert here, but if they are not broody, they shouldn't mind you taking them?

If I don't collect the eggs during the day I leave them till the next morning. They aren't into eating them and (mores the pity) none are broody (collecting eggs promptly can stop broodiness so maybe leaving them a bit longer can cause it?)

If I forget to put the barrier across the nest boxes late afternoon usually at least one will settle in there to sleep. When I lock them in for the night I just 'encourage' her to sleep elsewhere and with a bit of clucking they always do.

On the odd occasion when I've been out all day and got home after dark, I've lifted the eggs out from under whoever's cuddling them. Usually a bit of chuntering and grumbling, but very half-hearted
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there
