I paid 7.20 Euro for 10kg of layers pellets!!!..doesn't say they are GM free nor organic!

Needless to say we came back with a 20kg bag of GM free costing £6 something.
Need to see if we can get them cheaper( no pun intended!) over here.

I normally use Marriages poultry feed from a local feed store. About £8.45 a 20kg sack.
If I've been into Cambridge, on the way back through Fulbourn there's a place that sells Bearts at something like £6.95 a sack.
Its less petrol to buy from the local place, which is about 300yyds from my allotment where the girls live so I stick with them as we get all the dog and cat stuff from them too.

For those of you with allotments/land, would it be worth trying to grow some of the feed yourself next year? Fodder maize for instance? Or sow some mixed grain - wheat/corn/barley like in wild bird mix. Or would it be a waste of space for the yield?

Not really a viable proposition, the chooks would probably need the whole crop to keep them going for no more than a few days. I do grow extra brassicas for mine though

Small patches of grain-type crops tend to suffer from wildlife. I grew a tiny patch (about 10ft by 10ft) of wheat once. The sparrows loved it! Blending ingredients isn't easy either.
