Warm porridge, cabbage & sultanas

And the girls have gone potty - literally doing double somersaults to get their heads into the pans. Shredded the cabbage first before mising into the porridge.

BTW Aunty Mo they've learned a new word.....

"BROOM" used to get them out of the stables in a high pitched voice while guiding with the broom. They've caught on and now I don't need to use the broom

I bet you spend ages just watching them and chatting to them - I do.

It doesn't take them long to catch on to who feeds them - mine will all stop what they are doing and run to the fence if they see me, just in case I've got food. I took them a few worms the other day when I had been digging. They were in an orange (B&Q) bucket, it will be interesting to see what happens next time they see that bucket.

I have trouble mucking their coop out, as they all come to help - they're a real pain. I barricade myself in with the muck bucket and a bag of shavings, so they stand their ripping holes in the shavings bag, while one stands outside the coop front door knocking to be let in.

It's amazing what they eat isn't it. I spend an awful lot of time watching the girls while washing up or working in the kitchen. Great time wasters. I've had workman here doing a patio for the past couple of days and they have been taking every worm they find to the girls. The only problem is, the 4 days they quoted me to complete the work is going to be 8 at this rate.

that's the best memory i have of my grandmas chooks, holding worms up for them ..... was always in fits when they got a big long one and one would get an end each ....... funny i never felt sorry for the worms lol

My girls had a lovely treat today, porridge made with water mixed up with some layers pellets and a splodge of cooked apple and orange that was left over from making marmalade and apple jelly. Got so much of the pulpy fruit left I've put it into portions and frozen it

I usea broom to chase mine off the garden when i need to put them back in their run...they are quite scared of it ...it is the only thing that works.....i'm going to try saying broom broom broom while i do it ...and then on times when i dont have the broom to hand (when i discover them rooting up my winter salad and the broom is in the pen) maybe i can chase them just shouting broom broom broom.....they are (3) french hens but i think they speak english....course they could be bilingual...maybe i need to say balai balai balia !!!
