One of my ex-batt girls has today produced what I can only describe as a yolk type object in the nest box. I have seen a few of these before among their droppings but much smaller. This is about the size of a yolk, looks like a hard boiled yolk and feels like rubber. No one is unwell or egg bound. I'm used to odd shells, thin shells, half shelled eggs, eggs with no shells but this was really strange. Has anyone else seen anything like it?

I thought I had a problem with an egg eater until I realised the remains of the egg I found was hard boiled!
Hmmmmmm says I "Hens don't lay hard boiled eggs, do they, scratching head"?
One of the guys from the allotments was taking the p*** by chucking a hard boiled egg into the run!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

I found something exactly like this in the girls run today. I just picked it up and tossed it, thought nothing of it - they're always scratching up all sorts of lost goodies.
What is it?I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

As far as I can find out, I think it's called a "lash". Part of the reproductive tract gets a sort of cyst or polyp and it's shed in a similar way to human periods. Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but I've spent ages trying to find out myself, and apart from sending it away for histology (very expensive I think) nobody can tell me for definiteMy girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there
