1765 I'm adding in my 2 chicks as they're little fighters. I think I might have had some incubation problems, reading up about these things, so next time ............................. hope I do better

Sorry, bringing it back down to 1762 due to three of our boys meeting their destiny at the weekend.

I went to the Dingwall sale on Saturday and came back with 2 Shetland hens and a trio of Barnvelder bantams, I was quite restrained I thought
Since then I had to cull my Scots Dumpy cockerel Wally who has never been well and was getting decked by the other (smaller) cockerel. He's had a decent burial under my crab apple tree.

So 1794 + 5 -1 = 1798

Well, they were marked down as Shetland hens but really they aren't a recognised breed as they don't conform to much of a standard. They are usually black and red with a tufted head and lay blue/green eggs, but basically they are an Araucana hybrid. They have an interesting history! Mine look like splash Araucanas - white with flecks of black all over. I'm looking forward to seeing what colour the eggs are!
Edited to add - I got the most beautiful pale blue egg yesterday! A decent size for a bantam (nearer to a medium hen egg). Yay!!
minus 2, Snowy died over the weekend (Amber Link exbatt) natural causes it seems, and we lost one a week or so back, newer ex-batt unnamed who had just got her feathers back, stupid whatsit drowned in a water trough

Sorry to hear your losses Hayley - About a month or so ago, I lost one of my newly rescued Batties to the water trough too - so upsetting when it was a happy, healthy, well-feathered bird...
