New chickens - New chicken owner!
Hi everyone, thanks to you all for the useful info. on keeping chickens. We have been following your blogs for some weeks whilst planning our chicken run and all the extras. They arrived today ! 2 Miss Pepperpots and 2 Gingernut Rangers + their Eglu cube. I've got nothing else done today,
had some fun trying to get them into the hutch, hopefully they will soon learn to go up to bed as night falls! Love the gentle sounds they make, they fuss whilst you try to catch them, but are calm and quiet once held. They look nice and healthy and clean, I'll try and get some pictures up on here in the next day or so.
So far..1880

Down to 1878, I'm afraid.
One of my ex-Free Rangers that I got at Christmas 2008 had been off colour for a few days. She would have been around three years old by now, I guess, and had sixteen months of 'proper' free-ranging freedom, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Yesterday one of the large Girls I got last summer from a neighbour, was also under the weather. She could walk, but kept just sitting down most of the day. She didn't even get up when I went in with their afternoon corn.
Mr. G. kindly despatched both this morning, as they were lying together in the coop, propping each other up, with the others looking concerned. Nasty job, but kinder than watching them suffer.
