Well, this time last week I didn't think I'd be adding these 2 littlies I (probably foolishly) helped 2 chicks to hatch on day 25 and day 26. There were problems with both of them not being able to stand or feed or do anything really, but I've persevered drip feeding water at first, then egg yolk fed from the end of a cocktail stick, and as they grew a little stronger, I added in some chick crumb. 3 days ago, number 2 stood up on its own, trotted over to the water, had a good drink, climbed into the chick crumb, had a snack then went to sleep in it Yesterday, number 1 managed to get to its feet and was feeding and drinking fine on its own. It's still a bit unsteady and a lot of the time it's "head down, bum up" but it's a survivor!!
So the total is (for today) now 2007
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there
Minus 1 'Little One' who was one of my white ones from the Christmas 2008 rescue, gave up yesterday, so we put her out of her misery. Sweet dreams Little One!
Down to 2006

Sad day for me....all my girls have been taken by a fox and quite possibly its family, for once a clean kill although I'm not particularly thankful that I have been wiped out again.
I think a total rebuild of the run is in order before I take the plunge again..
2 light sussex bantams 1 black wynadotte 3 silkie cocks 1 silkie hen 2 gold tops 2 barbu's 2 black rocks 1 amber link 3 warrens 1 warren cock 2 bluebells and an incubator full so thats 1997 + 20!!!!!= 2017
I never realised I had 20 im going to have to stop.
Minus the 1 of my latest four who we lost yesterday - and I mean "lost" as we just cannot find her. I suspect the local urban fox again but this time it only took 1 and left absolutely no trace at all. (Remaining 3 are in lock down today).
Plus 3 ex-batts that I picked up yesterday. My first foray into chickens and having had my first egg this morning I hope that means they're settling in well already!
2072 One of my Croad Langshan "teenagers" was found dead in the run this morning Dunno why but I'm putting it down to "sudden chick death" syndrome. All the others look ok and happy so fingers crossed it's a one-off
