On a better note, a neighbouring plot holder is emigrating shortly and my wife had her name on a waiting list, she has obtained the plot with effect of January 1st, we have negotiated with former plot holder to purchase his delightful coop with galvanised nest boxes which have a 'drop out' egg tray, very savvy compared with the old coops on our present plot.
Cutting a long story short, we will inherit 16 more birds in early Jan when he uproots for foreign shores and the large coop has a capacity of 40 so could well be expanding beyond any previous expectations.
Our present 'flock' on our other plot of August POL's are now ludicrously tame, cleaning them out each Sunday is a task as they jump on you, on the rake, on the wheel barrow and if one bends over far enough on your back.
Love this hen keeping malarky :-)

Have had a bad couple of months, we lost our plymouth rock, Gin to unknown, one minute running around happy as larry next minute laying on the floor twitching like she had a broken neck, next was coco the chocolate maran, just slowly went downhill, gave her tonics and medicines isolated her but she just never recovered, after she passed on a lot of brown fluid came out of her mouth. So 2832-2=2830, and we had to euth a duck after she started limping badly, vet couldn't find anything wrong but the limp got so bad she couldn't move and was balancing on her wings, so a kind friend sent her on. 2830 I didn't include the duck.

9 in total for us. 8 hens and a cockerel. To be honest, I'm surprised we haven't had a letter from the allotment association about him but it doesn't matter, finally managed to get their new run built on the field so will be moving them at the weekend.
Of course, it's a very big run. Might have to start getting a few more.Proud renter of 4.6 acres of field in Norfolk. Living the dream.

......minus one 2838.
Lost Millie Magpie chook - found her when I went out for the eggs. Don't know why she's passed on, but we didn't know how old she was (we rescued her a few years ago) but she hasn't been looking too bright since before Christmas. RIP Millie xxJules

2849 + my 6 = 2855
I recently bought 2 Light Sussex, 3 different Orpingtons and a Maran. All housed in a lovely Flyte so fancy long legged Maggie's dozen coop and 18ft x 9ft run. Have been meaning to get some for ages and finally got round to it in mid December. Early Christmas present for myself and Mrs Snuffer. It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Picked up six hy-line brown chicks on Thursday night. Not much work has been done around the house since they arrived, just lots and lots of chick watching! They're only four days old so are indoors with a chick heater until they are old enough to go outside (at least six weeks, I believe). So far the cat hasn't even realised they are here!
