    • 2485 plus a lavender pekin cockerel minus a pekin cross bantam sold to a lovely home yester day. Erm 2435?!

      • 2435 minus Rosie =2434

Our 'rescue' Cream Legbar who only laid soft-shelled eggs, no matter what we did. Her owner should be ashamed of herself for deliberately lying in order to rehome her. It was only a matter of time before egg peritonitis got her, poor girl.

        But...

2344 plus Millie, our new football chicken hybrid, = 2345 again

We swapped five cockerels for her, no idea what she is, but she's quite sweet. Just treating her scaly legs before we put her and our two home-hatched girls in with the big girls.

        Actually...that's another two to add....so 2347

            • Minus 1 whatever the total is, so possibly 2346. We lost Rosemary last night. She was our Wheaten Marans who was looking poorly really quickly. We got her straight into the vet who put her on antibiotics. We syringed to no avail. My OH is in bits and we are all crying. What the hell was it.

                          • Minus one. Our little bantam Sulmtaler cock, nine years old, seemed to have had a little stroke a while ago - his gait had become rather unsteady. But as long as he still hobbled around happily among his girls and ate and drank I merely watched. He even seemed to recover a little and spent another two or so months surrounded by his ladies, sunbathing and trying to show off - only he didn't crow anymore.
But now, maybe after another stroke? one morning he was unable to walk and refused to eat. That's when I decided I would be his fox, and put him out of his misery (only much quicker than a fox would have been, and I hope painlessly, too). He was a great character and often made us smile, very handsome (golden duckwing) and an extremely tame bird that would go to sleep on your lap, the kind that would have been great for grandchildren if I had any.

                            2395 - 1 = 2394
...bonkers about beans... and now a proud Nutter!
