          906 + my 6 = 912
(1 bluebelle, 1 amber, 1 rhode island, 1 black rock, 1 light sussex and 1 speckled (though I think they might have given us a magpie instead))

We had the first egg on Monday, and 3 yesterday!

The girlies (I must stop calling them that) are 18 weeks old, so allowing for resettling, when should we expect eggs? The Breeder said Hattie, the cream legbar, would be later to lay than the others.

I expect it all depends on a number of factors, but can anyone give me a rough estimate? (combs are a deep rose colour, but not really red)

It does depend on a number of factors. Are the combs quite big now? Does the hen crouch when you put your hand on her back? (she's ready for the cockerel!!) Egg laying can start anywhere between 18 and 28 weeks. My Bluebelles are 18 weeks now and I don't expect them to start for another 5 or 6 weeks. The Welsummers are about 13-14 weeks and I think I'll be lucky if I get eggs before next year! They don't usually start laying till around 28 weeks and that takes us into October. The ex-batts I've got have small pink combs (pinking up a bit more since I got them) but they've just been through a moult and are getting lovely feathers now. Can't have everything - feathers or eggs? Just like the girls to be happy (but I'd like the occasional egg too )

                          924-1 = 923

Got home today and Pippin one of my ex batts had died. She was looking a bit 'off' for a couple of months and had been laying soft shelled eggs.
She had a year out of the battery farm and I'd like to think she died a happy chicken!

So sorry to hear about Pippin, she did end her days a happy free hen though didn't she. You did good xxxx

I've got to add my 2 Wellies that I took off last week - they'd been beating up the new owners other chooks (norty step for them!!!) and she asked if I'd have them back. No problem - it's open house for chooks here

                            So, the total is 923 + the 2 naughties = 925
