  • sugar is looking poorly

sugar the bully is looking poorly, we recently fitted her with a bumper bit to stop her plucking spices feathers, which has worked. its been on about 7 days she has found difficulty eating but she has laid all but 1 day since then, but not today. she is all plumped up with her head burried in her back and looking very down. this morning we cut the bumper bit off. she has had a drink and eaten some corn from my hand.

Have you checked to make sure she hasn't got an egg stuck or broken inside?

she was probably just sulking, cos of the mouth thing, think i'd put one back on ....... have you thought of getting a 3rd chook, so that the aggression isn't just aimed at one? then you can leave the new one and the nice one together, so they become friends and then introduce the norty one back in??

yeah we are thinking about getting a nother chicken, and will be watching her like a hawk to see the bullying. i have spoke to the wernlas collection where we got the bumper bits from and may well refit with another bit.

you could try lightly misting them all with a dilute vinegar and water solution so they all smell and taste the same

take her out of the group for a few days then put her back with the others preferably on neutral ground that is unfamiliar to them all
