It worked, as usual, Lynda. I went out to lock them up, thinking it was about 7 ish, but in actual fact it was 8 (I was busy gutting the kitchen)....and she hopped down to see me, so she's not that ill.

I think she'll be fine - my gut tells me that she's coming in to lay...but of course, I'm worried. *Whispers*...she's my favourite girl!!!

Aaaaahhh that's lovely. None of mine would hop down to see me once they've gone to bed. (about 4.45pm at the moment)

Fingers crossed fro you that she is about to start laying...You do know you've got me nearly as obsessive checking on here for your 1st egg as I was with Lynda's chicks!

mine are going to be very confused when they go outside, cos i'm usually up till past midnight, and they still have a bulb to keep them warm, so it's never really dark ..... so they eat whenever they are awake lol ....... tis gonna do their heads in if it's dark and they can't stuff their faces for 12 hours

I contacted their breeder and he thinks that if she's eating and drinking it sounds like she's ready to lay an egg. He's suggested bringing her in the warm house for a couple of nights if she stays 'off colour'...as apparently the heat can help get things moving.

He also said the girls were lovely...a real credit to me!

            I'm sooo proud!!! lol

Apparently, they're a dual-purpose bird, so could be table birds too

Scotland's a bit too far for me to pop over with Hazel tucked under my arm to give your girlie a talking to
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

think they may be next on my list and i can keep one or 2 and have the rest for dinner

                            you can't eat them....!!!

They apparently make great table birds....and as I am planning on hatching a few in the Spring, I MAY need to face the prospect of eating the boys! The boys are sooo gorgeous...and HUGE...beautiful colours!

I'm happy to say that Henrietta is fine today - totally normal, running around the garden being a typical chicken. They are all still acting weird (going to bed during the day, digging wee holes everywhere and lying in them, making a lot of noise, etc) but apart from that....fine.

                            Thank goodness!!

sorry behlam, but the next lot of chooks are going to be mostly dinner ....... i reckon if i keep one or maybe two girls out of each hatch, i get a nice flock of lots of different colours eventually, plus lots of yummy chicken dinners ..... and eggs too

fingers crossed you get some eggs soon and everything settles down ...... by the way, that sounds quite normal to me, mine sleep half the day too, make loads of noise and dig holes in their bedding to lie in.

How worrying Beph but it does sound like they're getting ready to lay soon, must come as a big shock for the first time
