Gosh I think you're very brave to be doing all this. It sounds terribley nerve wracking. Not at all helpful I know, sorry. I'm sure the other more experienced ladies will offer some good advice but maybe leave it to nature to decide.

I'm terrible for "just do this or that" to something (normally a pot I'm making) and then completely bugging the whole thing up.

I'm trying to learn to leave well alone but so far it's been a 35 year process.

Do you reckon that one may not be viable now( after Lynda's problem of too cool?)

Sort of have a feeling that I'm not going to have chicks now

Should I pop a couple of todays eggs under her- but mark them first????- or just leave it be?
(Other 2 eggs were laid Sun and Mon)
the eggs should be ok for a 1/2 hour or so of cooling, so shouldn't worry too much, if they are incubating, then it's probably not a good idea to add more now, as once the others hatch, if they don't hatch in a day or so, she will probably leave them ...... if nothing else, at least she'll be more experienced next time

        Update....still sitting

She's taking raisins from our hands whilst on her nest -seems a bit strange that she's not eating all day like the others are- but I trust if she's hungry or thirsty she's helping herself to the nearby pellets and water

        2 weeks to go!

Well be careful you don't squash them! your chickies brains are scrambled enough already without new chickies being scrambled before they're born

              She's still sitting!
3rd day on the run for 3 eggs from the other 3 gals- so we're not missing her eggs at the moment either!

Anyone know when they start laying again once her babes have hatched( if they do) ??

When she is convinced they don't need her attention all the time... (4-6 weeks as far as I can remember, too long since I had chooks)

                  update...

Well she's out in the field grazing with the others

_has been for 3/4 hr now- after 15 mins I went and put the eggs in my bra- and nearly got frostbite!

                  Think that's it now then

I've left the eggs to cool in her nest- but they'll be cold again by now - and she's happily munching the grass.
Think I'll leave them there until just before bedtime- but I really can't see them surviving that

Oh well- she only a young one herself...plenty of time for more!

...and now she's back on them

Suppose I should just leave her to it ?( although I hope my booby bit might have helped???)

I hope it did ............................ but she might have seen you and decided that you might as well finish the job Better get a bigger bra, one that's un-squashable

                          Well...Bertha is still sitting...but on 3 eggs!!!!

Not sure where that one snuck in!!!!!

Wish I'd marked her original 2 eggs now when I was babysitting them!
I did notice the original 2 were different colours- so they're not both hers- and the extra egg looks the same shade as one of the original ones! At least I know which one of them is an original one.

Yesterday Betty was at on 3 eggs next to Bertha ( it's a tiny nesting box) so I wonder if the other gals laid next to Bertha, and then Betty sat on them- and Bertha rolled one of them under her!!!!
(Betty was roaming free again this morning- but puffed up when I went to stroke her)

                          ..Why is NOTHING straight forward!!!!!!!

That is why I ALWAYS isolated broodies, to prevent them sitting on the OTHER eggs (and they will if they can).
