Update.....

Went on a 'spot the dead chick' hunt yesterday....and NONE to be seen!!!!

So....this morning I thought I'd check up on the last 4 eggs under Alice- and guess what...there were only 3 eggs....and a tiny yellow chick!!!

I've given the other 3 eggs a gentle shake...(and one started to chirp at me!!!!)

But shush....I'm hoping the jinx has gone away....

We have 3 - the original yellow one (3 weeks) then the ' unidentical twins'( 10ish days) and then todays.
So looks like we'll have about 4 or 5 from the original 13 eggs.


I'm dying to take photos and check on the egg, but I'm going to leave Alice to it until later on this afternoon.

Expected to see a new chick this morning......nothing...no chirps when I gently shook the egg..so I decided to crack it open....

Dead.

Wish I'd cracked it open yesterday when it was chirping at me
The shell was very strong- maybe it was just a weakling?????


I shook the other two eggs and they sounded liquid- and they were a few days older than the latest chick- so I cracked them open- egg yolk.

So......

We have 4 lovely chicks in total and yesterdays has eaten a bit of scrambled egg and a few sips of water...so Alice can now leave her nest and start teaching the youngest how to scratch around.
Positive thinking....and 4 sweet chicks.

I don't think breaking the egg would have helped Nicos, I may be wrong but think that it can harm the chick. Glad to read you have some lovely chicks. The mums will be better next time, and there will deffo be a next time!

I've not sprayed it for a couple of days- it does seem to be pecking less though.
The yellow twin has a go at it's feet from time to time- but nothing like the first one..almost carnivorous self-harming going on there-( quite a bit of blood letting )!

Will take some piccies soon- it's drizzly here today and they all seem to want to stay indoors at the mo.

And so...here are todays piccies..

I put the tiny one - now nearly 2 days old- with Betty and her young ones for a while for a 'this is how you eat' lesson- cos it's hardly had anything
Water yes- but not much food- and Alice just wanted to fluff up where her eggs had been

Eventually managed to get her outside for a stretch and change of scene- and put her chick back with her. It's had a small amount of scrambled egg and maybe a bit of crumb ..just a bit worried it'll get weak- I keep looking out for the 'midwife'
I'll try and feed it again in a few minutes....
