  • Battery Rescue 24/01/09

I've been contacted by the Battery Hen Welfare Trust about a rescue on the 24th. It's at short notice as the farmer only contacted them a couple of days ago to tell them they could have the hens. There are 500 being released and they are short of homes due to the short notice. The rescue is in Essex and the Collection point is Maldon. Anyone interested should contact jemima.winder@bhwt.org.uk asap. And nope I resisted temptation as Maldon is not an easy journey from here

    Many thanks
    Hayley

Well I think before she started keeping chooks, she'd thought about getting 3 or 4, then I persuaded her to get a dozen, then it's just escalated from there!

Why are they all so far away

I phoned re the local ones yesterday to find I was a day late so looks like I will now have to wait till September for the next release.

If any of yours start looking broody, could you hatch a clutch of eggs off ebay, or a local supplier? It does leave the cockerel question to deal with though I suppose.

I might do that but would prefer to rehome some already laying - chicks are cute but the cockerel bit might be tricky and it is a long wait for eggies.
