    All my chooks are gone.
Went to feed them this morning as usual around 8.00 and let them into their run. At 9 am went down the garden checked everything was ok had a good look round the garden as usual and then let them out into their part of the garden (all fenced with 6' fences and weldmesh) came in the house at 9.30 to make cup of tea, at 10am or just before glanced out of the window to see a full grown vixen walking towards the chook house, I shouted and ran down the garden to find 6 dead chooks (well, found 3 and 3 are missing presumed dead) all this in twenty minutes. I am devastated. Could it get any worse ... well yes it could, I have to tell my daughter when she gets home from school, as she normally goes straight down the garden to see the chooks. OH is really upset and son (18) is too, although he finds it harder to express himself as he is autistic. What a sh£t day!

Oh no...I'm so sorry for you - and them

It's something I dread from letting mine out and putting them away at night.
    Poor little things .

    Big hug xx

What a bummer! How on earth did the fox get in with 6 foot fencing?

I have my fingers crossed that the missing 3 have hidden themselves and are safe.

foxes can easily jump/climb a 6 foot fence

That explains why we always had a roof on our hen run - it was only 3 foot high! Blooming fox dug under it though (buried 2 foot deep too) and killed our 30 odd hens.

It has taken 25 years for me to get brave enough to keep chooks again - mind you haven't been in a position to have them till recently anyhoo.

yup, they take a lot of keeping out, i'm gonna have flags on half my run, then netting under the rest, and a roof over ....... they can chew through chicken wire too, hence the welded stuff i've got

Thanks for your hugs etc (it does help) but the bad news gets worse .. I have found the other three, buried in the garden.
