  • Poisonous plants

I've just come across this list of plants that can be toxic to chickens. I'm really pleased my chooks haven't become ill through eating stuff they shouldn't because there's things on the list that they have access to! Thinking about it though, they seem to leave alone plants like honeysuckle and clematis, though last year they did eat my daffodils and bleeding heart

Best not to get paranoid about it though, just be aware
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

I'm wondering who'd be daft enough to waste tobacco or 'hemp' plants on their chickens....

well mine quite simpley LOVE parsley. I had a huge bush (ahem) of it in the veggie patch and they've just totaly stripped it down to about 3 stalks. No sign of illness and that was a couple of weeks back, no sign of being dead yet either. (Mind you I think I should fenced in the veggie patch and not the hens)

Hmm, ours like a peck of privet too - just as well I am cutting it all down and getting rid of the hedge.

Well like I said on the first post, I think we shouldn't get too paranoid about it. Most animals (I might include chickens in that statement) don't eat things that are totally poisonous to them, it's just good to be aware of potential problems isn't it. Lettuce isn't on the list, yet I've been told that chickens and rabbits shouldn't eat it.

I am surprised that parsley is on the list. It is actually recommended for guinea pigs, as a valuable source of vitamin C.
I have since googled "does parsley poison chickens" and nothing comes up ????

Most of the beans mentioned are poisonous even to humans IF THEY AREN'T COOKED!

Once cooked I can't see there being a problem!
