    Nope not chooks...........

    Lambs

My farmer friend has had his 200 ewes scanned and 37 are carrying triplets - pretty devastsating really. But anyway subject to survival any that survive as threes the smallest is given away soooo.............

I need to get a holding number and quick

Yeah, tiny baby lambs ARE cute, once they are cleaned up. As they grow, they become amusing, then the amusement wears off as they develop into greedy little thugs, and they get less cute by the day. (a bit like any baby really)
We always tried to foster a triplet onto a ewe with a single, or whose lamb had died. usually worked, but we reared a few on the bottle most years. We did have one ewe who had triplets 3 years running, and reared them all without help. The year she only had twins I 'stole' some colostrum for the orphans. You don't get many like that! We never had more than 100 ewes, and we didn't scan, mainly because of the (humorous, sort of) poem about the severe fallibility of the system in its early days.

Do you know anyone with dairy goats? We always had a freezer full of goat milk and colostrum. We reared calves on the goat milk and the colostrum is suitable for all baby animals if their mum can't provide.

Kev's got milk powder for me and will probably give the colostrum anyway to the lambs from the ewe. He's been a farmer all his life so I know they'll have had a good start.

Glutton - sorry mate maybe come visit
