  • I have hens!

Thanks so much for all your advice everyone, I now have 4 Amber Stars

We got them at lunch time and put them straight in their run. They seemed very confused, but were soon pecking about at their surroundings. They very cleverly put themselves to bed with no help, and hopped onto their perch too.
I will post some photos, when 1. I have some and 2. I find out how to do it!

and 3. when you have time from sitting watching your chooks! They're the world's greatest time- wasters! Have fun! Looking forward to seeing your pics - I have an Amber Rock which is probably the same as yours! She's lovely.

Wonderful news Don't forget to add them to the thread "How many chooks have we got". My 2 Amber Stars I got for Christmas have only just decided that the others aren't too bad after all and are integrating into the flock lovely. They're really sweet girls aren't they
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

I am so looking forward to letting them out in the morning. Our next task is working out how to make a bigger run. And then trying to identify them and their personalities so we can allocate names!
They are 22 weeks, and Sarah said, if it was summer they'd be laying by now, but would take a bit loonger due to the shortness of the daylight. Having said that, my friend got hens from the same place 2 weeks ago and within a week they were laying!
I will try and get the photos sorted tomorrow evening--can't chook-watch in the dark!

Now if you were anywhere near Kirkaldy, I'd send you some of mine next month. My friends are going to a wedding and no doubt they'll stop here on the way to collect some for the bride's family
