Thanks for the comments guys, the coop isnt quite as well made as I'd like but it is functional enough for the hens. Im getting ideas for a balcony now, so the new ramp can be attached permanently.
I'd love to get another 3 or 4 hens next time, the coop would be plenty big enough for them.
We have alot of foxes in our area too, see them every night on the dog walk. We are fortunate enough to have a very secure gerden, but it wouldnt be fox proof. We have a border collie that shares the garden with the hens during the day, which will help as well.
Ive just brought some wooden eggs to try and pursuade the girls to lay in the right place, but this obviously isnt any good if they cant get back in the coop!
Lettucegrow, you will be surprised at the weath of information on this site and others, and even more surprised at the help you'll get from people if you post a question! What I find really usefull is using the advance search and searching through old posts for what I need to know. Pretty much everything has been covered in great detail. If you dont get on with this there's lots of books that are brilliant.
Looking after chickens is great! I highly reccomend it.

I wonder if your border collie will start rounding them up for you, I can imagine the chooks getting lots of exercise once your doggie catches onHayley B

I built a small dog house onto the end of the coop for her and put some carpet in but she didnt take to it so I've removed the carpet and will put a door on now, even though one hen seems to like it, spending most of the day in there! It also lays its eggs there so thats one less to find!
Cheers,
Sam
