  • New Shed How Do I Treat The Floor ?

    Hi All
getting a new 8x6ft shed this week for my birds, Ithink the floor will only be that cheap boarding, whats the best way of treating it to prtect it ?
was thinking of maybe some sort of oil based solution

my plan is to paint mine with wood preserver, then put lino down on top, and up the sides sealed with sealer at the edges, it will then be easy to clean and you can wash it out too.

If you are going to put a waterproof layer over a 'wooden' floor, make very sure it has an airspace under it, and a dpm of some kind (pieces of plastic feed sack will do, as long as no holes in 'contact' areas) between the 'base' (blocks on the ground?) and the timber bearers. Wood, or wood-based boarding WILL get somewhat damp, and only 'letting the damp out' will prevent it rotting. VENTILATION! (if the gap underneath is big enough to 'peer into' that may deter rats, otherwise make a concrete underfloor, but you still need to lift the shed and use dpm).

the shed is off the ground, on bricks and the base is above the bricks by about 4 inches, plenty of air.

I just put a piece of lino down on mine, which is a bit larger and goes up the sides...

When I clean out (and it is dry!) I sweep off everything I can, drag the lino out and hose it down (then sweep the actual floor) and put the lino back in....

The ducks and chickens haven't yet done anything which has damaged the lino or the flooring beneath it

                Hi
I have an untreated wooden standard shed floor
I have about 6 inches of wood shavings and shredded paper on top I skim off the top paper and wet shavings every week. I have never had a wet floor when I have a big clean out.
The shed floor is several years old and still sturdy.
