Definately agree foxes worse in towns. My mum lives in small village in New Forest and never sees a fox. Her neighbours hens wander around the front garden. I live in a town and foxes are around all day. They are used to getting fast food from rubbish and people feeding them. My son had 3 on his lawn today at lunchtime. He has a dog too but was worried to let her out as there were 3 foxes. 2 were copulating so he went out and chased them down the garden and they ran away (still attached!)
I would worry too much to leave my chickens not locked up at night. Went to Spain for a week before Christmas, phoned neightbour from the airport to check on girls and worried the whole time I was away. Neighbour doesn't eat eggs so my trip cost me a carton of fags. Worth every penny though.
