Erm.......... you know when you're looking at ebay............ and you start to think 'Where's the harm, there's three days left and I'm bound to be out bid'?......... Well, I'm soon to be the 'proud' owner of half a dozen hatching eggs. Soooooooo, where can I get a cheap incubator really quickly? They have them on the dreaded ebay, but I'm not sure if it would arrive before the eggs. How long would the eggs keep? Should I put them in the fridge or what? And, most importantly of all; how am I ever going to explain this to OH?

PS. I blame certain members of this forum for the 'inspiration'. OMG, what am I going to do?

leave them in the egg box pointed end down for at least 24 hours before incubating at room temp, they will be fine for up to a week, then fertility drops, so should be fine

this one is cheap, and looks good ...... i was going to get one myself, but he didn't have any on when i bought mine.

New Forced Air Incubator / hatching eggs on eBay, also, Poultry Hatching Incubation, Pet Supplies, Home Garden (end time 31-Jan-09 10:43:45 GMT)

as for the OH, just don't tell him

Wow that is cheap. Can that be right? Thanks, Lynda.

Flummery, how did you know that down my bra is probably the last place OH would look?

he makes them himself, you can get plans to make them, but by the time you've got all the bits, and paid postage, you may as well buy one ready made, lots of people use home made incubators with success, and to get a real one that good from a shop would cost at least 2-3 times that.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr well you know I've got your incubator Lynda, well last week when I was browsing on Ebay, I thought that my big chooks could do with another feeding trough and saw what I thought was a good price so I bought one. The only thing is that I got my centimetres mixed up with my inches, so I've now got a 30cm long feeder - just chick size . So now I've just put a wanted ad on Freecycle for a travel cot or playpen. Just in case I do happen to accidentally get some eggs and they do accidentally find their way into the incubator and I do manage to accidentally hatch them out

lmao auntie mo, well i may be able to help with the accidental playpen cos hopefully mine will be going out this week, so there will be a spare playpen with no babies in it if you want to borrow it if you don't accidentally get one on freecycle of course
