  • where do you store your eggs?

Just wondering cos I read somewhere that they should be stored in the fridge because of 'germs' on the shell .

I'm leaving mine in a cool utility room- but what about in summer???? How long would they keep ( not that I'm expecting to have a surplus!)

My understanding has always been that the shell is sealed until you wipe it with a damp cloth - hence our eggs are stored as found (unless they are particularly ucky). The oldest ones are in a ceramic hen and the others get dated and put in egg boxes stored on the kitchen worktop. The oldest eggs we have had have been about two weeks old - I think they are still fresher than shop eggs! I only ever keep eggs in the fridge when they are hard-boiled

I keep mine in the kitchen in an 'eggskelter' on the worktop. It holds nearly two dozen (depending on size) as soon as it's full, I take them off the bottom and put them in an egg box and OH takes them to sell them at work.

If I remember to hard boil any, they get kept in the fridge, but I don't remember that often. If I had room in the fridge they could go there, but I like looking at them lol!

Mine always go in the fridge, only keep a few at a time the rest get given away so doesn't clog the fridge up.

Why should they not go in the fridge?

              It spoils the flavour.

i never keep mine in the fridge either and i cant for the life of me remember why....if it spoils the flavour is it because they take on the flavour of stuff they are stored with? I never have surplus anyway...at the moment my three are only laying one or at most two eggs a day between them....and when they are all laying at 3 day ....2 for breakfast (one each) and one for making something else.......like pancakes or batter or cake or biscuits or pudding or something.......

Mine go in a bowl on the kitchen windowsill - the front of the house faces northwest and gets very little sun (no herb-growing on the sill for me!). In very hot weather I do pop them in the fridge if I'm not going to eat them straightaway...

I understood that eggs don't need to be stored in the fridge so why then, is there always an egg storing shelf in the door of the fridge?

I always keep mine in the fridge even though I know I shouldn't. Old habits and all that

Mine are in an egg tray on the kitchen worktop, all in lines, all dated with a pencil (sad aren't I ) If the tray is full (30 eggs) I phone number 1 daughter to come and get some. I sell some to neighbours and take some as a gift if I'm visiting overnight anywhere. I wipe any poo off with a dry cloth when I collect them, but only give them a good wash (if they need it) just before I use them

I was taught if you boil a cold egg straight from the fridge the shell is more likely to crack.
