What are these?

These poor birds turned up at our stables in a very sorry state, extremely thin and two of them have leg injuries-probably dumped on the A3 next to the stables (we get dumped dogs too )Thank goodness they arrived before the snow did or they wouldn't have made it. I wondered if anyone can identify their breed although the pictures aren't good! They are hopefully going to the local wildlife hospital to be treated later today and then the local farm who has chickens have said they will have them-lets me off the hook-I was trying to decide if I had the room!!

No idea - the white one looks almost like a cockerel with those huge legs, but it could just be the poor state of them. They might not be any breed, just farmyard mongrels - at any rate I wouldn't like to hazard a guess until they'd improved in health. Poor things

Can't see how long their necks are but they look like Old English Game - one wheaten, one spangled. They may well be cross breeds too, but most likely to have some game in them somewhere. If they look more prehistoric then they could be one of the asian game breeds instead. Someone's been using them for cockfighting, they lost their fight and then got dumped on you. Makes me ashamed to be part of the human race sometimes

Possibly a white star and a black rock? Not sure about the speckledy one. Which wouod make them hybrids and 'good' layers.

I hate to hear people have been so thoughtless and cruel.

The latest 'craze' is to have chickens I am told. Apparantly when the latest 1001 dalmations film was released the craze then was dalmations, Then a few months later the rescue homes were full of dalmmtions as peopel hadn't realised how big they got or that dogs have needs!

Shocking.

Maybe a dedicated poultry forum could identify quicker?

Bet they are point of lay chooks and someone has realised they're boys..boy- they do look ill...hope they make it!

I was thinking some game breed cos of the size of the feet, poor things look in a real sorry state, don't they. Careful if they are, when they're back on form tehy can be really feisty!

Dont know the first thing about birds sarflo, so sorry I cant help your enquiry - but just wanted to say well done to you for looking after the poor things. I never cease to be amazed by the cruelty of some people, I'm not sure whether it upsets me or makes me mad - a combination of both really.

The white one and the other big one are really tall-much bigger than my 4 girls-I was also wondering about cockfighting as we have a large number of the travelling fraternity nearby. The small one is really small, I was thinking maybe Bantam sized. They are all really tame but that could be due too their poor condition-too worn out to do anything. We couldn't get them seen to today but at least they are on clean straw with food and water,poor things.

black, looks like it has some copper colouring, so maybe http://www.vhatchery.com/photogaller...opperMaran.jpg although not sure with it's yellow legs. (maybe a cross??)

if they are cockerels, they don't look very old, as mine have bigger combs at 7 weeks than they have so if they are fully grown, i think they may be hens.

The white one looks a bit like the ones sold for people to fatten up, and the way it couldn't stand would fit with that, because they often have weak legs. No idea about the others.
