Please don't let there be any beautiful fertile eggs there that I'll just HAVE to buy.
Please don't let there be any day old chicks that are so gorgeous that I'll just HAVE to bring them home with me.
Please don't let there be any trio's of lovely Welsummers begging, nay fighting to get to the front of where I'll be standing.
Please give me the strength to resist impulse buying
And PLEASE if I do succumb, give me the gift of the gab so I can explain what I've done to my family and friends who think I'm mad already

I wish I could offer sound advice But I started off with 4 and am now pushing toward 50!! I only need a couple of chickens for my needs!!!!!!!!!!!
As long as you can look after them fully and ensure they have a great life I am sure the family will understand

see now i reckon you should get some eggs some baby chicks AND a trio of welsummers, that way you get to try the incubator, you get chicks to play with in the mean time, and you get your welsummers ..... all in all that would be a good day out

If you buy eggs (or chicks) try to get them from a seller who also has adult birds for sale that you can veiw - so you have a better chance of getting what your buying...

I love the place and it does the same to me, I will be there next week as I have thing's to sell there, but I always end up buying in more than I sell.....

I bet we have bid on the same things in the past....its a small world out there.

1. DON'T be the first one to bid
2. Take a really good look at the birds you want to buy
3. Decide on what price you are prepared to pay BEFORE bidding starts
4. Don't get carried away.
5. and most important, have fun!!

But seriously, you can pick up some real turkeys (no pun intended) at poultry auctions. Look for birds that are bright eyed and healthy, and with some sort of information about how old they are. There are some really unscrupulous breeders out there, and some really good ones too.
