lol just off the 414,by the harlow circle, theres a farm supply shop, you can get hay, pellets, mash etc at a reasonable price....£7.50 for 20kg pellets and bale of hay for £2.20

Their adress and phone number are...Eastwick Lodge Farm
    01279 430706
Eastwick Lodge, Eastwick, Harlow, CM20 2QT

They are so far the cheapest that we have found locally....

I give my ex-batts Layers' Pellets, but I add hot water to soften it (and warm them up on cold mornings), and mash it a little with a spoon. I also add limestone flour (Calcium Carbonate) and baked, crushed eggshell and mix it all together. Twice a week I also add Poultry Spice. I add their wormer (Flubenvet) this way too.

This has been fine since November when I got them. I add a few more unmashed pellets too, as I am now trying to wean them off the mash for convenience. They look lovely, and most of them have feathered-up really well.

Any tit-bits/extras are fead sparingly an hour or so before bedtime, which is now half past five, not four fifteen as it was when I got them!

I wouldn't worry too much! At Little hen they go onto mash, but people do feed them pellets straight away. I had my little one on chick crumb cos it's higher in calcium and neutriants which help while they regrow the feathers.
I'm sorry to say the hens are often starved if the farmer knows they are being collected, so will mostly eat anything put in front of them. You just have to keep your eyes peeled for the odd one who won't eat or drink.
