You're right...heavy breeds can become fatties...but you sound like you're doing everything right. I don't measure my girls food...to be honest...just don't overdo it with the treats. I find mine self regulate their pellets nicely...but if the could have mixed corn on tap, they'd all be a member of weight watchers!!! Greedy!

as regards cannibalistic ........ mine love chicken carcasses, and any other bones to 'chew' on they strip them clean .... they don't know it's chicken though, cos i don't tell em ......... and they love cat biccies in their mash

I know I shall sound like a spoilsport and I know lots of people do it, but it's actually forbidden by DEFRA rules to feed poultry on meat and food scraps. I know that many people on poultry forums are pointing out that DEFRA doesn't police backyard chicken keepers but if they find it being advocated on public forums that you should give your chickens cooked meat, they might start being pro-active in licensing us or something worse!

Just a word of warning. I'm not saying don't do it - maybe I'm just saying, don't tell everyone you're doing it!

Don't forget spice, twice a week helps with laying as it provides many nutrients. My lot slaughtered a few caulis yesterday thrown in that were not fit for human nosh (all but one - I'm not growing the darned things any more) they stripped those down to cauli skeletons
