The answer is as long as they are higher than the nesting boxes they will be ok! (I'm asuming by perch you mean roosting bars within the coop?)

My roosting bars are about 2 foot and 4 foot from floor and they tend to use the higher one mostly!

I have perches in the run as well and they are all at different heights from 6 inches up to 5 foot!

In my house they are about 3/4 of a foot from the floor, just above the nest box and the branches I have out in the run are at all different heights!

        Hello,
Just reading your thread and noticed Snadger mentioned his perches were higher than the nest boxes, just wondering why this has to be as my nest boxes are about on the same level as there roosting perch.
        Cheers,

Faverolles only have tiny wings and large bodies and they probably can't get up to them?

Putting some ramps up to them might help?

Mine are 3ft and 4ft high.
They have the top of the nesting boxes they can jump onto to reach them.
They tend to use the top perch in the corner up against the wall.
              Mine are unclipped bantams

Despite those obvious design flaw Snadger...they actually can jump up quite high. My breeders girls perch 5ft up...without any help. He told me they like perching high...it just seems my girls haven't done it yet. They have half a tree stump in their run and they bounce up on to that no problem.

I think the real problem is the house is too big for just 3 girls (don't worry, already putting plans in to action to rectify that problem...lol) so they perch in the nest box to regulate the temp in there a little easier.

The height of your perch depends on breed and landing surface... some are quitehappy just 4" off the floor others can be 5ft or so up but if landing at all hard there is a risk of bumble foot especially in large breeds....

They will generally (if they perch at all -mine stopped this winter) all perch on the highest available space....

So do most of mine! I've solved the problem to a certain extent by putting boxes in the nest-boxes about an hour before bed so they can't sleep in there. If they don't perch, but sleep on the floor, they get pooed on by the good girls
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Mine too. Although they are quite happy to sit on them when I'm cleaning out and will get onto the perches in the run in order to reach their treats. They just prefer to sleep cuddled up together on the coop floor. Cleaning out would be a lot easier if they did perch.
