nearly lost the chooks

went out and fed them a bit late cos i was out, so it was about 5.30, so i left the shed door open so they could get a good feed before bed as the light was going dusky....... came in had tea, watched telly.............

and totally forgot about them till 10.00 .......

i think the fox must have not noticed them yet, cos he normally comes around 9

thankfully they had all tucked themselves up in bed, but i feel really bad ...... thankfully the run is finished apart from the roof, which will be done tomorrow as rob's staying to do it ....can't wait till they are properly safe.

You're not the first mum to forget to shut them in, and you won't be the last! Glad they're safe though

after tomorrow it will be fine, it will be fox proof, (gonna test it on cleo, she'd do anything to get in with them for a cuddle) it's just the fact i left the shed door wide open.... so relieved they're ok

Like Glutton said...we've all done it,try not to feel bad!!They're safe,so no harms done & bet you won't forget again anytime soon!!
(Andi went to let ours out & feed them the other morning...wasn't til he got there & they were all at the fence to greet him,that he remembered he'd forgot them the night before!!)

At the moment I have a routine before dark..collect the starter wood from the store - and make up the fire- but shut the chooks away first.
I HAVE to do it before dark as there's no outside light...so , so far.....

I've done it twice!!! Well once really but the other time was when I hadn't put the bolt across the pop hole properly so they pushed it open themselves next morning. Like you, I felt really bad and guilty and worried etc, but thankfully they're all safe and well and happy and that's the main thing. I'm glad your little ones have started putting themselves to bed though if they hadn't, perhaps you might have heard them clucking?

Nicos, get yourself a big strong re-chargeable torch I have to wait till it's properly dark before locking their door otherwise Marigold (who stands at the pop hole right till the last second of daylight) won't go in and I hate chasing chooks especially at night!
