    • To be honest, on Wednesday when I got back from my course I thought I'd killed the lot of them! I'd put the incubator in the chookarium for safety because the cat kept going near it and I was worried she'd push it off the worktop. The temperature went up to 40 and humidity was way down too. Anyway, everything's ok and I can adjust the temperature where they are now so they don't get too hot or too cold.

I think you're right about eBay eggs, if there isn't a supplier locally and the seller has got good feedback and hatch rate, you might as well go for them

            • Only a couple of names so far (cuz I can't really tell one from tuther!) except I think I know which are the boys and which are the girls. Blossom was first out, and now I think he's a boy! Petal was next - yes, she's a girl. so I think there's another boy and 3 girls and another still to be hatched (maybe 2 or 3 more, who knows). I'm hoping to keep with the "growing" theme, and I think some Granddaughters will name them tomorrow. Got some suggestions for them, Snowdrop, Basil, Sage, Dandelion, Buttercup. Trouble is all my other girls have flower names and I'm running out!

              • Well!!! Exactly 24 hours after the first baby hatched, number 7 has just arrived and is squawking her head off (or his head off)

                • Sooooo jealous!! Would love to hatch some, but have a silly Boxer who would think Mummy had got him his very own fluffy balls to play with. They would have to live in the house till they were big enough to go down the plot, and with 2 cats and 2 dogs to contend with it just wouldn't be sensible.

                  • I know just what you mean Kirsty. Although I haven't got a dog, my friends bring their Staffie when they visit. I've also got a cat who just loves bringing me birds, mice etc. I'm very lucky though, my friends gave me a large vivarium and that's where the babies will be living till they're big enough and it's warm enough for them to go outside

So is that 2 more possibles & 3 likely dud ones left?

                      Fingers crossed for some more!

                      • i have a dog and 2 cats, cleo thought they were her own special toys and got in with them once, but she's never tried to kill them for some reason, now she rounds them up in the garden if they wander too far lol .... the dog ignores them, and asbo is terrified of them .... the playpen with a roof worked a treat for keeping them safe.

                        • Well done those chicks up til now auntie Mo!

To follow up on Lynda's post......I think ebay eggs have got a bad name for themselves but like Lynda I had a reasonable hatch of 7 from 12 eggs set. I didn't think that was bad at all!

They are now in a specially made wooden box next to the puter........tweeting like mad and trying to fly. Only one of them, the first one out, has a tuft on his tail and he's a bully. If he aint a cockerel he's a heck of a foisty female..........not to be messed with I would think!

Still no piccies I'm afraid but Maureens pics should give you Oooh----Aaaah-ers a fix for a while!

                            • There's 5 eggs left in the incubator none pipped so I decided to carefully candle them. I think (pretty certain) that 4 are duds because I can almost see through them. The other one might be ok, so I'll wait till late tomorrow evening to see if anything's happening there. 7 out of 12 virtually straight from the breeder (via the auction) isn't as good as I would have thought but as they only cost me £3.50 and no postage, so it's not bad is it
