Evening all! We are getting round to keeping chickens, have had some experience in the past when I didn't have an allotment. Was wondering, can you put shavings+poo mix on the compost heap??

yup, just make sure they are well composted before you use them -

You can add it in moderate quantities to the other stuff and it will act as an activator - but if you find you have a lot, you should compost it separately, like horse manure. If you want to dig it in, it needs to be rotted down for a year or two, but in small amounts it can be scattered on the surface and left to weather - much as it would if the chooks were wandering your plot!

i stick mine in then a layer of other stuff, though i used some as a mulch over winter in beds i'm not gonna use for a while ..... or you can do it in a seperate heap, weeing on it helps tooComment

I put mine mixed in both compost heaps, but it normally ends up spread all over the garden after the girls have had a good scratch in it.Comment
