Hi does anyone know where I can buy enough wormer for six chickens and which is best to use? I had to pen my chickens because of a fox visiting during the day; and now I think I saw worms in their poo, when they were outside I didnot have such close contact with poo to notice OH did droppings boards.

It depends which wormer you want to use. A lot swear by Verm-X which is a natural product but I think it is really a preventative. A guaranteed wormer is Flubenvet but you can't buy small quantities. However, the amount you can buy will keep and you can worm them every 6 months as recommended. They tend to pick them up more when free ranging - from eating worms and slugs and such which carry the eggs. If you get rid of this infestation they might keep clear if they are penned. People say that garlic in the water and/or apple cider vinegar - available from farm or horsey stores also act as preventatives as they make the gut hostile to worms.
If I knew my hens had worms I'd use Flubenvet. Maureen has posted a supplier before I think. You could try the search engine here, or google Flubenvet. Pricey but it works.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

OOO...ooo...just to borrow the thread!!! ( hope you don't mind???)
I've got some Flubenvet...and not used it yet ( had the chooks just under 5 months) AND.......was wondering if it's OK for me to add it to the water ( bearing in mind I have some babies- 6 and 4 weeks now). Will they be Ok with that - or am I likely to kill of the last of my clutch????
My chooks aren't laying at the mo- so I wonder if it's the best time so I don't have to discard any eggs ( or have I got that wrong???)
And yup...that's really kind of you Jilly!Last edited by Nicos; 11-03-2009, 12:50 PM."Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

i have asked the question, but when i first got the stuff i was told it had to be measured out with food not water. One person gave the actual measure to each bird on a grape,to ensure the right dose was given to every bird.Have a look at your pack and see what yours says.Chicks?I personally wouldnt ,not without an experienced persons advice.I'll let you know what they say on the other forum.

Oh I hope she can!!!!
As my mom always says..'when all else fails- read the instructions!'
..so I have - and I'm still a bit confused!!!
OK- so it can be fed to 3wk old pheasants- so I imaging my chicks will be fine...and if I had 1,000 of them- I'd need 16 tubs of 240g( or is that 1.6 cos I've not got my reading glasses to hand!!!!)
flipping heck...my maths isn't up to all this!
So 3 chicks and 6 adult birds.
They love raisins- so I'll use those..just a matter of how much each for 7 days to work out now"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

I use the grape method. Just halve or quarter a grape, dip the tip of a sharp knife in the Flubenvet and smear onto grape. The dose is very small. This way you can just dose the chickens that you want to. Someone on here suggested putting in the porridge which also seems a good idea. If you use raisins you might need to wet them first.
