I know you can get them from Glencroft Poultry (google for details) near Scotch Corner. They are an agent. I was looking for some myself - they are very hardy and friendly and can go on for 10 years I'm told. Unfortunately our local black rock agent had to give up due to the cost of heating and feed - she was getting them as day olds. They aren't easily spooked which is good if you live where there are low flying aircraft (like us!)

I think matthew2riches has them - when he comes on I'm sure he'll have more to add.

I've got one - she's definitely the boss of her little gang and rarely gets picked on by the older birds! Nice friendly character and really good layer. Bought 3 new girls at the same time ( Black Rock, Light Sussex hybrid and a Bluebells) and the black rock was laying a month before the others and has never missed a day since September.

I have 2 Black Rocks and they are lovely girls, they came into lay at about 21 weeks and have been consistant. They do like digging in the flower beds and bathing in the veg garden but that is OK as the veg is protected.

Thank you everyone for your help, I am going to Glencroft at the weekend I will see if they have some. I have them in an enclosure at the moment, reading your replies I was thinking do some of you have them on your allotments free ranging around the veg beds. I will have them covered due to rabbits getting in last year.

Oh Thanks Flum, hadn't thought about that. We're under various flight paths when large military things go playing over the Lake District, some of the jets make a hell of a racket and last weekend had a Tocano (training plane) using our road as a straight line to follow. I waved and got a wing-wiggle in return (he was very low).

Scotch Corner isn't too far from us either, how neat if you and I both get our girls from the same place? Good luck with the planned work for tomorrow.

I have three Black Rocks - Excellent layers, very friendly and lovely looking birds.

Bit far from us though Bilbo me-dear. We are planning on going to Outgate Poultry in north Lincs. Don't want to take them too far in cat baskets - they might start purring!
