I ended up getting two copper and two cuckoo. They don't stand still for long, as they're being chased by the others, so this is the best I've got so far...
Ooooooohhhhhhh they really are posh, love the copper, resistance I..... must......... resist.....

Well,I had my heart set on either a couple of Aracauna's or Legbars for my birthday, but seeing the colour of those eggs may well have caused a little indecisiveness(sc)...oh no!!!...I may need to get 4!Aaaarrrghh!!
Good looking hens BTW!!& do they have posh names yet?
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.
Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.xx
andi&di, I was considering Araucanas first, as a friend has some, but changed to Marans when I heard about the really dark eggs.
As for names, at the moment they are just 'the Newbies' as my folks have gone away for a couple of days, and haven't enlightened me as to names. Knowing my Mum though, they'll end up with some really ridiculous handle, and I'll still call them 'The Newbies' or 'The Marans.'
I'll try and get some better pictures later, now they've settled a bit.
Stupid me forgot to ask how old they are, so I don't know when to expect eggs. I'll send an email and see if I can find out.

They look like lovely birds.
Forgive my ignorance but is a Cuckoo Maran the same as a Speckledy because they look very similar, if yes then thats what I have, great layers, eggs not as brown as the Maran but we get quite a few double yokers.
I picked up a Cuckoo Maran for £5 at the poultry auction this week on Wednesday. She has laid very large eggs (not dark brown) both days so far with no problems of settling in with the rest of the Mob! I already have 3 Cuckoo Maran bantams (2 hens and 1 beautiful cockerel) but I wanted the bigger version also.
