They didn't really need it - it was to keep the blokes out of the way and stop 'em fainting!

              Egg stopped chirping...

I am worried. My chick has been talking on occasion throughout the day, but hasn't said a word from inside his egg for a few hours... Would it be silly of me to say that it might be napping, rather than assuming the worst?

Have they piped yet ? some of my hatch took upto 12 hours from hearing them to them piping and some upto 25hours from piping to getting out the eggs , they do stop cherping for a fuw hours at a time so dont worry
                Goodluck with your hatch montana

I'd err on the side of caution and assume that he/she's having a bit of a sleep to conserve as much energy as possible to break out of its shell. Good luck and let us know how things are going

I opened up the egg that hasn't chirped in a while, and it looks like it suffocated... it had piped, but didn't go any further. Now I'm really worried about the others.

Hmmm...I was told to leave them to hatch..otherwise they'll die of some thing else eventually cos they're not very strong.

If I were you...and lost another one like that I'd VERY carefully make a hole so they can breathe...and maybe help them out

it's very difficult to watch something die isn't it????

If you can't resist interfering..then follow your instincts!!!..good luck!

Great Aunt Alice was one of those olde worlde midwives who delivered all but the poshest babies at home. She said the boiling water was largely a myth, but occasionally you did get a family who'd insist, in which case she'd leave it to cool and use it to give baby his first bath. Funny thing was that even with all that boiling water sloshing about few people thought to offer the midwife a cuppa.

I am no expert by any means but if your egg is cheeping and it is happily under a hen then chillax!! Mummy hen will do all the worrying for you.

Hopefully within the next 24 hour you will have little chick. xx

                            Good luck...

I am sure there will be someone more experience to correct me

Nope, I know I'm no expert either, but I'd tend to agree with Munch! Good luck, and, just in case you're not yet aware, some of us are really nosey and need lots of pictures of the new arrival!

Mummy hens know much better than hi-tech incubators. Relax and let us know tomorrow what happens.
