  • Mrs Brown R.I.P

Had to have one of my girls put to sleep today. The vet told me a couple of months ago that she had tumours in her abdomen and she wouldn't live for very long. She was still eating well but looking very swollen the last few days and not pooing properly. I knew when I took her to the vet today that I would end up coming home without her but still cried my eyes out. Can't believe how these ex-batts become one of the family just as much as any other pet.

Oooooow that's so sad . I dread the day I lose one of mine. It's easy to say that she ended her days happily, and in freedom, but it's still awful when they go. Hope you are ok, and have the others to help console you.

Soooo sorry Frias. Having been in the same position I know how sad I felt. Still get a lump in my throat when I think of the girls who did at least have a taste of freedom and doing chickeny things. xxxx

Oh so sorry to hear that Frias. It's good to know she had a true chickeny life before the end though. They really do get into people's hearts, these little hens, don't they?

I think Mrs Brown was a bit peaky a while back at pretty much the same time as Cocoa, strange coincidence

Thanks folks. Yes I think Cocoa and Mrs Brown were off colour at the same time. She took her moult quite badly and although grew beautiful feathers back I think it sometimes takes too much out of these ex-batts. Who knows what they went through before. I am now down to 4 but to cheer me up they laid 4 eggs yesterday and 3 so far today. The last one is still trying to make it 4 today.
