Hi all, I asked a question a little while ago about my chooks lopsided chest and you all put my mind at rest but on one of them (the one with no feathers, this lump is red-is this normal?
Also, I know that sometmes it benefits some of the ex-batts to have a kind of coat made. My mate knitted the coat for me but how cold does it have to be? Olive oil - my bald one does sometimes look as if she shivers (the tail feathers move as if she is at least). Many thanks!

The skin is very thin there- when my chicks have pigged out on crrushed corn you can actually see the bits through the skin!!!

Just wondered if yours have been eating worms or something sort of redish????

They have just discovered worms!

I have one with a bare red patch too - I think it's where she plucks at it when in the nest-box, or the others do it when they want to get in and she won't get out. She's fine, and beautifully feathered apart from this one small patch!

Could it be you have a mite or somthing irritating areas on the birds?

If it looks sore and red you could try Sudacrem (or similar), Aloe Vera gel or maybe Tea tree oil at bedtime (so the others don't peck at it). I had one with a bare red bum and that seemed to cure it.

One of my newies has a very lopsided crop. Anyway some bare bits can look very red, a couple of the newies have bare bums and when they've been running around a while it looks redder, I have deduced that it is because the blood is pumping faster. It could be just that or someone is pecking it or she's eaten too many worms like Nicos said. I'd only be concerned if there was blood

Yup me too Hayley. Mine's the fattest, most shiny healthy-looking bird of the lot (apart from the red bit) so I'm not worried at all about her.

As for mites - the amount of mite spray I use, I would be very surprised! In fact the only annoying irritation around my girls is me !
