  • Chicks one month on.........

My chicks are one month old now and I honestly can't believe how much growth they've put on.
For anyone contemplating hatching there own.........do it! It's truly amazing watching the various stages they go through.....and so quickly! They are nearly fully feathered as well.

*Note to myself.......must get a new camera*

They will be moved to the allotment in the next couple of weeks as being pure breeds they seem to be as big as my fully grown hybrids even at this tender age.
I'm slowly moving the heat lamp further away and may start switching it off through the day soon!

to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

I'm also seriously thinking about putting mine outside very soon. I've not put any heat on during the day for the last week and as they're all snuggled up together in a basket tonight, I haven't put the heater on tonight either. Don't they grow quick!!!! They've nearly outgrown their quarters and the next stage up is the coop

As Snadger hasn't posted any pics yet, I thought I'd give you an up-to-date look at mine. They're 3 and a half weeks old now, and I apologise for the wire netting getting in the way

It appears you have stolen my dog crate idea. Just bought one for a tenner off one of the allotment holders but it hasn't been warm enough outside to put them in it yet.
              Nice looking chooks Maureen.

Five of mine are probably cockerels so will eventually look like this!

Aunty Mo they look lovely although the one with the white fluffy head reminds me of 'Doc' in 'Back to the Future'

Yep They're huge now! They eat and poo as if it's a competition too. They don't have any heating on in their little house now and they've been going out to play every afternoon. They love it . They'll be going out late tomorrow though, I'm not back home till after 3

Mine were out in the 'dog pen' for the first time today. They loved the sunshine (I think) and managed to prise a few worms from the turf. They had never seen worms before but quickly learned what they were for. One chasing tuther around the pen with a worm in it's mouth.......as per the big girls!

Forgot to mention the weaning from heat process has decided to take things into it's own hands......the heat lamp blew up!
Luckily i was in two minds whether to give them some heat this evening.......it just made my mind up!
