Went to collect three lovely clucky hens from Stagenhoe Farm this evening. They're in and settling beautifully. It wasn't easy being shown a barn full of hens to choose from and came away with different ones than I thought I'd get. I chose a Blue - they call them Bendish Blue, lovely soft blue/grey feathers, a Hertfordshire Honey which is a lovely brown/white, Rhode Island Hybrid and a Magpie which is a silver sussex hybrid . I managed to hold them all before putting them in and they seem quite docile but very spooked by the cat,who in turn is fed up as I'm keeping him untill they are ready for bed and have found the roosting spot. Pics tomorrow ,promise,( the battery died on the last shot so needs charging) Chooks at last!

Yeah, don't worry about the Cat - Chooks aren't afraid of them. In fact, when mine were free-ranging in the garden, the cat just walked through the middle of them with her snooty head held high, and they all ignored her!Last edited by Glutton4...; 03-04-2009, 09:59 PM.All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

The new girls!
Here's the pics as promised. I've had a lovely day chatting with and cuddling the chooks. They don't mind being handled which is lovely . They eventually ventured out of the roost and in the afternoon I opened the coop and they had a roam around an enclosed area I'd done for them. Still quite wary but then hens have that look about them, don't they? I love them already!Gardening forever- housework whenever
