  • ouch ouch ouch.....

    Now I feel REALLY mean

As usual- i called my chooks with some corn and Au Vin decided to fly OVER the electric fence to great me!!

Hmm- he suddenly panicked realising he was on the wrong side and didn't want me to catch him..so I had to corner him against the fence
..and I grabbed his feathers to hold him thinking that feathers are better insulation than skin- and then got a tingling shock through him in my hands.

They're still tingling 10 mins later- poor lad- I bet he's suffering too

What sort of rubbish mum am I???

Ha..nope but that would be a good name!!!!..he's called Paxo!..and he's the no 2 cockerel- and is happy to be pampered and have his ears tickled/stroked!

He looks fine now- but I have to say my hands felt 'funny' for about 30mins!!!!

I don't think you're mean at all, better to let him tingle for 30 minutes than be taken by a fox. That's what I'd have done too... did I mention I'm mum to a couple of cockerels now?.. I did?.. Sorry
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Obviously he was SO glad to see you though! Some consolation? I'm sure your hand will feel better soon but it's nasty isn't it? No wonder the foxes keep away!

electric fencing feels horrible, but it really doesn't do any harm. We once had a turkey get himself wrapped in a section of electric fence. You could tell it was 'live', because he was twitching when we found him (no idea how long he had been there, possibly half-hour) but 10 mins after we got him unwound, you would never have known it had happened!
