  • UPDATE; Poorly Banty

Hi peeps I wanted to give you an update on my little Wyandotte banty hen that got ill about 10 days ago; Well she is still with us, little purple hen [has a name now taken from her purple legband ] I am pretty sure she had mycoplasmosis an infection of the sinus cavity in her head, she was really bad, at one point every time I wnet to check on her I expecd that she would be dead. Horrible nastt virus [I think] swollen head, especially around her eyes, pus foaming from her tearducts poor thing. I brought her in kept her warm, made sure she had water with a dropper, bathed her eyes with optrex as they kept sealing shut with the goo and tried to make her feel better with some bachs rescue remedy drops.
I put her out with the rest yesterday as she was giving such a fight & sqwaking when I had to tend her. She is now eating, drinking & pooing, fingers crossed that she will be on the way to the best of health and put on some weight as she is skin & bones. And a big hug and thanks to all you peeps for your lovely messages & support

So glad your banty looks as though she will make a recovery.

I lost a maran to it last year. No signs of symptoms when I put them to bed the night before, but the next morning she was slumped in the shed by the pophole. Poor wee thing died before we got to the vet. Had to medicate whole flock with Baytril I think it was as a precaution.

      Poor little thing!
I'd not been aware she'd been ill. Well done with all your nursing care
Glad to hear she's pulled through.

You could give her some porridge that will help her put some weight on and she will love it!

Well done nursing her through that. They all deserve a chance don't they? I hope she continues to improve.

Flummery you are so right, everything deserves a chane, that's why I didn't take her to the vet, he would have wanted to put her down straight away, not into chooks.

KimT, I'll try porridge, have to catch her first!!!
