  • Chicks born with a comb already

    Hi all
Just wondered , Just hatched chicks that are born with small combs are 100% going to be males ? I have a light sussex & maran that was born this way, and sadly no other ones of them breeds to compare with .
    Many thanks dave

The 2 I thought were definite boys were born with combs. Although this pic is labelled "Blossom" it's actually Rowan who's the biggest of the lot now and getting a very impressive set of wattles ........................ at 5 weeks!!!

Light Sussex all hatch with combs (if they are male or female), and the one maran I have hatched also had a comb. I have noticed that my Light Sussex cockerals either are lighter in colour or have spots on there heads. Just had one hatched on Monday that has a spot on it's head.

Thats interesting, only one of my Light sussex hatched with a spot on it's head!
Still no idea what the heck mine are at nearly six weeks!

When I looked at your photos I could only see 1 Light Sussex Cockeral, think I may have commented on that at the time.

i was still not completely certain about elvis almost till he went at 16 weeks lol ..... i guess it's easier with same breed chooks but having 6 chooks with different breeding definitely didn't make it easy
