  • Wanted: Hens in South Lancashire/North Cheshire area.

The chook run on the allotment is all but finished apart from one essential ingredient - Some chooks!

We are ideally looking for around six traditional/rare/old breed hens to start with. Trying to find a breeder on t'internet in my area is proving to be quite difficult. Of the ones I have called I have only had one callback telling me that they are sorry but have nothing until spring!

We are in the South Lancashire/North Cheshire area. If anyone can help of point me in the right direcion then it would be greatly appreciated (esp by the chooks - it's quality accomodation)

    Thanks,

    Matt.

Not too sure how helpful this is but they always have a load of rare breed ones at the Abbey Leys Farmers Market, near High Legh (www.abbeyleys.co.uk, tel 01925 753465). Think they're more for information than anything else but could be worth you getting in touch. The market is the first Sunday in every month but there's a farm shop there all the time so hopefully they could give you some pointers.

Sorry, don't know anymore as don't keep chooks - garden's too small, have a couple of cats and my mum is terrified of birds (I know, it's irrational but there you go!).

Let me know how you get on.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Thanks for asking. Well, still no chooks but Andy knows a farmer near Macclesfield who reckons he can sort us out with some of this years pullets so just waiting on that lead.
