we got a small egg today from our girls! We added two cuckoo marans and 2 light sussex to the 6 rangers we got last week (bit of scrapping, but ok now). I think it was laid by one of the sussex, as she has been acting different to the others, closing eyes etc. I saw on a posting this is often prelude to the first egg..... and she is acting normally now! This forum is really useful and reassuring! Anyway, its very exciting!

lol congrats to your girls ....long may they continue to lay! How are you going to cook it? Soft boiled with soldiers?Never test the depth of the water with both feet
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....
Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

You never know lettucegrow!! Although what I will say...leaning down and crouching are two different things...the crouch is a unique thing, they crouch down and pop their wings back slightly....for the cockerel to tread them. Also super handy for catching them!!
Well cone on your first egg Emmy...super eggciting!!I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

It's probably one of the Rangers - 3 of mine are laying. They come into lay much sooner than the pure breeds. All of mine do the crouch down, wing back thing but one isn't eggy yet. Still plenty of time!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Any ideas on the shutting of eye thing? she still seems to be doing it today. She isn't fluffed up or poorly looking though."Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within.
